~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Review:
Snow Escape starts off introducing us to Allegra Maxwell, a single school teacher who turns to an online dating site in hopes of meeting Mr. Right. In the beginning of the book I found myself drifting back and forth because I wished the author wrote it in the Allegra's P.O.V, instead of writing it in the third person omnipotent...it felt kind of boring...I wanted to experience what Allegra was feeling, instead of being told how she felt.
BUT as I read on, I found myself wrapped in the story and wanting to know more.
This story is a real page turner once you get caught in it... I won't spoil the ending, but I will say its a MUST read, especially for those who love a good mystery based on a real possibility.
Author Interview: Roberta Goodman
This week I would love to welcome, Roberta Goodman to my blog. Would you like to tell us a little about yourself?
I'm married with two children. I grew up in Philadelphia, but I've lived on the Eastern Shore of Maryland for the past 12 ½ years. Eventually, I want to move to the West Coast, because I love warm weather. Living near the beach is also one of my dreams.
The search for contentment has been a very long journey I've taken for most of my life. Sometimes I feel like giving up my dreams, but then I remember they make me who I am and I can never give up.
All of my perseverance seems to be paying off. My debut novel is available in e-Book and paperback and I couldn't be happier. Writing is the only thing I do really well. Now that I've been given a chance to get my work out there, I want to take full advantage of it. Gaining acceptance on a large scale is not an easy thing to do, but I'm hoping I'm able to accomplish this goal and entertain readers at the same time.
What inspired you to write Snow Escape?
During the winter of 2009-2010, my area of the country endured three massive snowstorms, two of which occurred within a week of each other. About a week after the back to back storms I was sitting at my computer querying agents for a previous manuscript. I looked out the window and watched as more snow fell, but this storm thankfully was going to pass my area and head up to NY. I remember thinking, 'Thank God we're not going to get hit from another storm. Let NY get clobbered with it, because I've had enough snow.' That's when I had this light bulb moment. What if you had a woman in NY and she's trapped in her apartment because it just keeps snowing? What if this woman uses online dating to meet guys and one of them decides to contact her during the blizzard, etc. From the beginning, I knew I wanted to write it in a way that would make readers question if the events were really happening or was Allegra imagining them.
How long did it take you to write Snow Escape?
I started writing it in February of 2010 and finished it in July 2010, so it was about five months from start to finish.
While writing how many times do you go back and rewrite a plot?
It depends on what I'm writing, but usually it's uncommon for me to rewrite a plot. I didn't rewrite the plot at all for Snow Escape, but the project I'm working on at the moment has had its plot rewritten once.
You run into a bookstore, where do you go first?
If I'm by myself, I head to the romance section or classic literature. If my kids are with me, it's children's books.
How many books in a month do you tend to read?
On average I read probably three a month. I usually end up reviewing them for my blog in addition to the short stories I review on a weekly basis. I really would love to read more, but I've been so busy the last six months I haven't had time.
In all the books you've read, who is your most favorite character and why?
Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice stands out. She was written as a strong woman who wasn't afraid to speak her mind in an era where women weren't considered to be equals to men. She had a brain in her head and was proud of that fact.
State 5 random facts about yourself.
-I have a tremendous capacity to love.
-I'll always be a city girl at heart.
-I have naturally curly hair that I straighten.
-I'm a huge Disney fan.
-I love fast cars.
What are you currently reading?
I'm currently reading The Prince at the Corner Bakery by Leta Gail Doerr. I plan to review it on my blog. It's a lighthearted story about a divorced mom of three who lets go of the past and finds romance in the process.
What particular place do you write in?
My main computer is in my bedroom, so that's where I write most of the time. I need quiet to write.
Your favorite Genre?
Tragic Romances are my favorite genre because love is such a strong emotion that it can make even the strongest person weak at times. We've all had our hearts broken, so it's an incredibly relatable thing.
Paperback, Hardcover, eBook? Why?
Even though I love feeling an “actual” book in my hands, I'm starting to prefer eBooks because they're more practical than storing books all over my house.
What is the best book you've read?
I usually prefer fiction, but my favorite book is actually non-fiction. I think Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is the best book I've ever read because it has everything. There's humor, mystery, suspense, and the location the book takes place in happens to be one of my favorite cities, Savannah, Ga.
Here's your chance to market your book. Describe it and why readers should pick it up?
Snow Escape is a murder mystery/thriller that takes place in Brooklyn, NY on the night the biggest snowstorm in history is occurring. My main character is a 30-year old single school teacher named Allegra Maxwell. She's used online dating to meet potential love interests and one of these men chooses the night of the snowstorm to contact her. They talk via Instant Messenger for several hours. Ultimately, during this conversation, she discovers that he's been stalking her and claims he lives in her building. This is where his threats to harm her begin and will continue throughout the night. She turns to neighbors for help with tragic consequences ensuing. She's basically trapped in her apartment building because there is a tremendous amount of snow on the ground. It's hampering her attempts to leave, but it's also keeping the police from reaching her. Snow Escape's appeal lies in its unpredictability. It's a roller coaster ride through the dark topic of stalking. I want readers to come away with a better understanding of what motivates some individuals to do the horrible things they do. Readers should pick up a copy if they enjoy a good murder mystery that will keep them guessing until the end.
Review- Earth Angel, by E.Van Lowe
Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal Romance, Fiction
Book Blurb:
Just because Megan Barnett recently defeated Satan, has a fantastic new best friend, and has won the love of deliciously handsome, Guy Matson, doesn’t mean her troubles are over. Far from it. For Megan doesn’t realize it, but in her possession is a powerful weapon, a weapon sought after by both angels and demons and everything in between. They will do ANYTHING to get it.
In E. Van Lowe’s humorous, romantic and thrilling sequel to Boyfriend From Hell, Megan winds up in a gripping life or death battle to save herself, the boy she loves, and all of mankind from unthinkable evil.
About the Author:
E. Van Lowe is an author, television writer, screenwriter, playwright, and producer who has worked on shows such as "The Cosby Show," "Even Stevens," and "Homeboys in Outer Space." He has been nominated for an Emmy and an Academy Award. Van Lowe stepped into the young adult fiction genre with his novel "Never Slow Dance With a Zombie," a horror novel with a comedic twist. It was a selection of the Scholastic Book Club and a nominee for an ALA Award.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My Thoughts:

Earth Angel is the second book in the Falling Angels Saga. I normally don't like to read a series out of order, but in this case I did, and I feel that E. Van Lowe did a wonderful job in making it easy to follow.

At the begining of the book, Megan seems like your typical teenage girl..excellent student, wonderful daughter, and caring friend, who is trying to deal with the lost of her bestfriend, Matt (in book ONE). As the book progress, her character begins to take a whole new turn, from a model student to someone who is about to become expelled from school...From the ideal, trustworthy daughter to someone her mother can't trust. And just as Megan thinks the Evil she once defeated has given up, Hell turns up again. This time with demons, that'll stop at nothing to get what they want. Even if it costs the lives of everyone Megan holds dear.

My Rating:

Earth Angel was a very interesting read. Lowe, did an excellent job in getting into the mind of a teenager. I must say that I was impressed with the book and look forward to reading Book Three!

Author Interview- E. Van Lowe

Today I would love to welcome author E. Van Lowe to my blog.
First, tell us a little something about yourself.

Hi there!
I'm E. Van Lowe, an author, television writer, screenwriter, playwright and producer who has worked on such television shows as "The Cosby Show," "Even Stevens," and "Homeboys In Outer Space." I have been nominated for an Emmy and an Academy Award.
My first YA novel, "Never Slow Dance With A Zombie," is a zombie novel with a comedic twist. It was a selection of The Scholastic Book Club, and a nominee for an ALA Award.

What inspired you to write The Falling Angels Saga?

The Falling Angels Saga is the name I chose for my 4 book series that began with Boyfriend From Hell. Having been a TV writer for so long, I really liked working on series. I initially thought of Boyfriend From Hell as a one-off, but then I thought “wouldn’t it be fun to spend more time with these characters.” Once I decided it was a series I got really excited. The second book in the series, Earth Angel, came out in December 2011.

How long did it take you to write Boyfriend From Hell?

It takes me about eight to ten months to write the first draft of a book. This is the draft I submit to my publisher and editor. It takes another month or so of editing to get it just right.

While writing how many times do you go back and rewrite plot?

I go back all the time. Every day I go back and refine. The plot of a book keeps changing as I discover new things about the story or characters. As it changes I need to go back and make the past pages work with the new ideas. So there’s no set number of times for me. As many times as it takes to get it right.

When you walk into a bookstore, where do you go to first?

I always go to the YA section first. I write YA and it is my favorite section.

How many books do you tend to read in a month?

In a month? Wow! I am a very, very, very slow reader. I read less than a book a month. I used to read more, but what with researching new books and ideas, and writing and marketing my current projects, there isn’t as much time as there once was. I usually have two to three books working at any one time.

In all the books you've read. Who is your most favorite character and why?

I think my favorite character is Seymour Glass. He appeared in several J.D. Salinger books. My favorite Seymour Glass story is A Perfect Day For A Banana Fish. Spoiler Alert: I caution anyone who wants to read this story- it has a tragic ending. I can't say why I like Seymour Glass so much, but I guess it's because I love reading Salinger's books.

State 5 random facts about yourself.

-I love pizza
-I am afraid of bridge
-I love tequila
-Even though I am a writer, I can't sit still very long
-I have a reputation of being a nice person. I like that

What are you currently reading?

Fat Assassins, by Marita Fowler and Imaginings, by Paul D. Dail. I recently finished reading, Clockwork Angel, by Cassandra Clare.

What particular place do you write in?

Definitely at home, although I can write just about anywhere. I have an office, but I like writing all over the house.

What is your favorite Genre?

I don't have a single favorite. I like Horror, YA, detective, and chick lit, like the Shopaholic novels, which I LOVE. My favorite book last year was Dreams of Joy, by Lisa See.

Paperback, Hardcover, eBook? Why?

Don't like hardcover books much anymore. Too cumbersome. I love paperback because I like holding a book in my hands, but I LOVE my eReader because it's like holding a library in my hands.

What's the best book you've read?

My favorite is Nine Stories by J.D. Salinger.

Any new projects coming up?

I have a book coming out in June, I think. It's the first book in my Hollyweird series, about a fifteen year-old necromancer living in Hollywood. It's called: The Zombie Always Knocks Twice.

Who does your cover art? Did you design it yourself?

No way could I do it myself. My cover art for the Falling Angels books is done by Adara Rosalie, a very accomplished cover artist out of Australia. For those of you who are interested, I have a wonderful interview with Adara Rosalie on my blog:
http://vanlowe.blogspot.com/2011/12/interview-with-earth-angel-cover.html#comments

What advice can you give someone who is thinking on writing a novel?

The hardest thing for new writers to do is FINISH. But if you don’t finish books, you cannot have a career as a novelist. Right? So no matter what, FINISH YOUR BOOK. Even if it stinks. Finish it. Set your mind to writing so many pages a day and even if you fail at that, finish it. Get in the habit of writing the words "The End." Finish the book, then you can go back and edit.

Thank you for stopping by and doing this interview. Is there anything you would like to share with the readers? And maybe tell them why they should pick up your book?

"I will let my fans speak. Here is my most recent Amazon review for Boyfriend From Hell:

This book was an excellent read. It was scary, fun, and witty all at the same time. Just when I thought I knew what going to happen, there was always some twist that changed things and kept the story going. I just couldn't put it down.
I especially loved the character of Megan. She seems like a typical teenage girl, not a perfect, can-do-no-wrong heroine. She was so easy to relate to because I could see teenage me in her and I'm sure the same would be true for a lot readers.
I also love her special relationship with her mother. They are so close and yet they were struggling to stay that way for most of the book. Despite the handsome men in their lives, this was my favorite love story of the book.
I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone I know and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series."

Review: The Vampire Hunter's Daughter, by Jennifer Malone Wright

About the Author:

Jennifer Malone Wright resides in the beautiful mountains of northern Idaho with her husband and five children. Between the craziness of taking care of her children, whose ages range from fifteen all the way down to one year, and being a homemaker, Jennifer has little time left for herself. The time she does have left, usually leading far into the night, is spent working on freelance work or her beloved fiction.

When she grew up, Jennifer always had her nose in a book. She has been writing stories and poems since grade school. This love of the written word and her strong interest in the paranormal is what has led to her first novel “The Birth of Jaiden.”

In addition to being a mother and homemaker, Jennifer is also a very proud military wife. Moving around the country for the last eleven years has made her a bit of a nomad and she finds it difficult to be in one place for too long.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
About the Book:
The Vampire Hunter's Daughter is a serial novel that introduces the reader to Chloe Kallistrate, a 14 year old girl who witnesses her mother's death and quickly discovers why her mother kept her hidden from her family all those years.
In Part I, Chloe discovers that her mother was a vampire hunter and not just any vampire hunter, but a direct descendent from the most powerful bloodlines of vampire hunters. Forced to leave all she's ever known behind and begin a new life amongst a secret community of vampire hunters, Chloe must learn to trust and learn the skills necessary to achieve the vengeance she most desires against the vampire responsible for her mother's death.
Part II in the series begins with Chloe's training and the struggles to adjust to her new life and role as a vampire hunter when all she really wants is to be a normal teenage girl. When faced with danger and the threat of a vampire, Chloe begins to realize that her life is far from normal. She has a purpose---a drive. And that is to keep focus on what she was meant to do: kill the vampire who killed her mother.
In Part III & IV we see Chloe discovering her new powers and why she is different from the other vampire hunters in the community. We also get a glimpse into Chloe's heritage and on how she is a descendent of an immortal demi-god. With the development of her gifts and the realization of her heritage, Chloe begins to understand why the vampires will stop at nothing to get to her. And after the vampire hunting community is attacked and lives are lost, Chloe begins to question her being there and placing everyone she's begun to love, life in jeopardy. Will she stay or will she seek revenge once and for all?
Well you have to read the books in order to find out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I really enjoyed reading this serial novel, Jennifer M. Wright will have you hooked from the very beginning. The main characters are not your typical whiny, soft teenagers, but real bad ass vampire hunters that mean business. It's a fresh take on the vampire YA genre. There is a lot of action, suspense and even a bit of romance to these series. At the end of each part, you will be left with wanting to know what will happen next, but at the same time, not wanting the series to end.

My rating:

Author Interview: Jennifer Malone Wright

I would like to welcome Author Jennifer Malone Wright to our blog today.

Why don't you tell us a little something about yourself?

I am Jennifer Malone Wright, mother of five children, military wife, lover of the written word, supporter of the arts and author of the paranormal. I have one novel called The Birth of Jaiden and a short story series called The Vampire Hunter’s Daughter. I also love photography and being outside.

What inspired you to write The Vampire Hunter's Daughter?

The Vampire Hunter’s Daughter just started as an inkling of an idea about a woman vampire slayer. I decided that woman needed a back story and became fascinated by her story…and that is how Chloe became The Vampire Hunter’s Daughter.

How long did it take you to write the book?

It didn’t take long at all, because it’s a short story series. The first two parts are pretty short, and I wrote really fast. The third and fourth parts took longer, and this last part that is not released quite yet took the longest because I was figuring out story line…plus, well…I have five kids.

While writing how many times do you go back and rewrite a plot?

It really depends on how the story ends up telling itself. I usually go back many times and change little things, but the major plotline stays the same.

You run into a bookstore, where do you go to first?

Duh…YA section!

How many books in a month do you tend to read?

Well, I try to read as least two or three. Because I’m such a busy person, I don’t have a lot of time to read for pleasure. I run a book blog too, just to keep me reading and accountable for it.

State 5 random facts about yourself.

I am a history junkie. I love the ocean. I can play the harmonica. I hate housework and I love road trips.

What are you currently reading?

I am currently reading Evershade, by Alexia Purdy. It was just released by Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing. Check it out. It’s great so far.

What particular place do you write in?

I have to write at home. I’m a mother of five kids and my husband is a cop and in the Army National Guard (used to be active Army), so he isn’t home a lot to take them. When he is home, I want to spend time with him. We have had conversations lately about me having time to either go somewhere to write, or hide at home.

What is your favorite Genre?

My favorite genre is paranormal, but I like romance like Nora Roberts too.

Paperback, Hardcover, eBook? Why?

All of them. I refuse to choose because I like them all for different reasons. I love my hard covers for collecting. I love paperback for the bathtub, and I love my Kindle because I can take it anywhere, read all my indie author friends books, read it on my treadmill, and I could add a lot more to each one.

What is the best book you’ve read?

That, I can’t answer either. I have no idea. It’s like asking me what my favorite song is, this week it might be Rolling in the Deep, but next week it might be 9 Crimes. It just depends.

Here’s your chance to market your book. Describe it and why readers should pick it up?

Ok, well first here is the blurb...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fourteen-year-old Chloe witnesses her mother’s murder at the hands of a vampire. Before the vampire can kidnap her, there is an unexpected rescue by a group of vampire hunters. Overwhelmed by the feeling of safety, Chloe passes out and they whisk her away to their small community.
When Chloe wakes, she comes face to face with the only other living relative, besides her mother, whom she has ever met: her grandfather. Chloe’s mother kept her hidden from the family; now, Chloe tries to unveil the family secrets.
Through her grandfather, she learns her mother was a vampire hunter. In fact, her entire family is descended from the powerful bloodlines of vampire hunters. Chloe agrees to join the family she has never known for one reason only: Chloe vows to kill the vampire responsible for her mother’s murder.
With vengeance in her soul, Chloe is even more determined to follow through on her vow when she discovers the true identity of her enemy and how he is connected to her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This series is exciting. It’s packed full of action and fight scenes. I have an awesome heroine who is part vampire and part Hunter and she watches her mother die at the hands of vampires. She vows to avenge her mother’s death and finds herself in a world of the paranormal that she never knew existed. The Hunter’s are descended from angels and demi-gods. So, these hunters are a special breed of hunter and live in a gated community, like their own little town.

You will totally like this series if you like paranormal YA. It is also FREE on Amazon, B&N, Smashwords, and all kinds of other places.

Classic Book of The Month: A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens

Title: A Tale of Two Cities
Author: Charles Dickens
Country: United Kingdom
Genre: Historical Novel
Publisher: Chapman and Hall
Publication Date: 1859

ABOUT THE BOOK:

A Tale of Two Cities is a novel by Charles Dickens, set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution. It follows the lives of several protagonists through these events. The most notable are Charles Darnay and Sydney Carton. Darnay is a French aristocrat who falls victim to the indiscriminate wrath of the revolution despite his virtuous nature, and Carton is a British attorney who endeavours to redeem his depressing life out of his un-returned love for Darnay's wife, Lucie Manette.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Charles Dickens (1812 – 1870) was an English writer, generally considered to be the greatest novelist of the Victorian period and responsible for some of English literature's most iconic novels and characters.Many of his works were originally published serially in monthly installments.Dickens loved the style of the 18th century picturesque or Gothic romance novels.His writing style is florid and poetic, with a strong comic touch. (although A Tale of Two Cities was his least comic novel)
*For more on Charles Dickens click HERE

MY THOUGHTS:

I first read this book when I was in High School (a long while ago...) Charles Dickens has a way with words that I could only dream of ever achieving as a writer. I recommend this book to any young reader who is interested in Charles Dickens or English Literature. I'm not going to pretend this book isn't hard to get into at first, but trust me once you keep reading, the story will draw you in and you will remember it for life. With well over 200 million copies sold, it ranks among the most famous works in the history of fictional literature.

I rate this book:
